How to financially prepare yourself for surgery
Fees and insurance.
Consultations for cosmetic surgery
are provided at no charge. Fees for aesthetic plastic surgery
traditionally are paid prior to surgery. Costs vary because of factors such as
the
complexity of the operation, where the surgery takes place
and what type of anesthetic is administered.
As a rule, aesthetic plastic surgery is not covered by most
insurance plans. Sometimes however, there is a fine line
between whether the surgery's prime objective is to improve appearance or to
improve
function. For example, breast reduction surgery may be covered
by your insurance plan if the weight of your breasts causes pain or interferes
with normal activity. There are other procedures, as well,
that may
have a significant functional component. If this is the case,
your insurance company will be contacted before surgery to determine how
it views your particular operation.
